CHIEF Justice Luke Malaba has urged magistrates to live a conservative life that does not put the name of the legal profession into disrepute.
He made the remarks at the opening induction of newly appointed magistrates while cautioning them against harvesting an inclination towards corruption.
Those who exhibit corrupt tendencies, Justice Malaba said Government will not hesitate to take action.
“If we detect the slightest inclination towards corruption, be assured that the gravest action will be taken against you.
“We expect utmost honesty and integrity from each of you,” he said.
Justice Malaba also advised those who drink to avoid the excesses of beer but remain conservative in the practice.
“Alcohol should not drink you, you should drink alcohol. Being a magistrate is a very conservative career, try to impose restrictions in your way of life. Forego a number of luxurious activities you find enjoyable because the public regards a magistrate as a respected person,” he added.
Justice Malaba implored the trainee magistrates to have a heavy response in their association.
