18 April 2018
A suspected robber, who reportedly shot a Harare man in a crossfire between armed robbers and police last week has appeared in court.
Prince Makodza, 29, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Tilda Mazhande charged with murder.
The matter was remanded to April 26 after he was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
The State alleges that on April 13, at around 1pm, Makodza with his accomplices Carrington Mutevera, Ben Mashingaidze and Amon Nhimura, who were on the wanted list for armed robbery cases were being pursued by a team of CID Homicide.
The team caught up with Makodza and team at number 1 Adlinn Road Marlborough, Harare who were travelling in a Honda Fit registration number ACT 2727.
When they saw the detectives, the accused persons sped off but were cornered opposite number 1 Adlyn Road.
They reportedly disembarked from their car and ran away while firing at the police officers before they took cover behind a precast wall at number 1 Adlyn.
The State also alleges that they shot and killed Chatsama Muchesa, who was in his office at the premises.
The police officers shot back at Makodza and Nhimura and they managed to apprehend them.
