Biti’s brother arrested
9 August 2018
FORMER finance minister Tendai Biti’s brother Stephen Tirivangani Biti has been arrested after he was found with a suspected stolen car.
Stephen, 47, was not asked to plead to contravening section 182 of the Customs and Excise Act when he appeared before Harare magistrate Milton Serima.
The matter was remanded to August 23 and he is out of custody on $50 bail.
The State led by Sebastian Mutizirwa alleges that Stephen was found with a stolen motor vehicle namely VW Golf 4 chassis number (wvwzzzijzxp533212).
The motor vehicle was checked with the affixed number plates in the Central Vehicle Registry data base and it reflected on another motor vehicle.
According to the State, the motor vehicle was checked using its chassis and it was not appearing.
Stephen was asked about the vehicle and he could not give satisfactory answers hence he was arrested.
Stephen told the court that he has been assaulted by the police upon arrest.
Magistrate Serima advised the State counsel to investigate the matter.
