Businessman offers US$30
27 December 2016
A DEMA businessman said he was living at the mercy of his relatives hence he could only afford to pay a dollar per day for his eight-year-old child’s upkeep.
Taurai Gure who was hauled to the maintenance court by Caroline Samiro told the court that he has hit rock bottom and raising money for the child was a problem.
“The business in Dema is not flourishing. In fact the business closed down. As it stands I am looking for employment but I am failing to land job.
“I have a diploma in Shipping and Forwarding but we all know the county’s current situation, there are no jobs.
“I can afford US$30. At least I am confident I will be able to raise that money. I am vending tomatoes, so I am sure I will be able to raise the money,” he said.
Caroline claimed US$100 for the child’s welfare.
“He used to work for reputable companies and I am sure he has savings. More so he is a businessman who runs bars. I know he has money.
“If he is not going to work it is because he does not want to. He has the capacity to have a well paying job,” she said.
Taurai was ordered to pay US$80.
Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa presided over the matter.
