CAPS fall, ZPC on top

. . . Carlton at Ajax
CAPS United could lose defender Carlton Munzambwa who has gone for trials at Ajax Cape Town at a time the champions desperately needs depth to compete on two fronts.
Lloyd Chitembwe’s charges, who fell 2-1 to ZPC Kariba at Nyamhunga yesterday, are trying to retain the league title while leaving a mark in Africa.
In Thursday’s game, Francisco Zekumbawira scored the opener for ZPC Kariba in the first half before Abbas Amidu equalised for CAPS United.
Never Tigere scored the winner as Sunday Chidzambwa’s side collected maximum points.
At 18 points, ZPC Kariba are now top of the log.
Carlton has had to play a cameo role with the coach preferring Dennis Dauda and Justice Jangano.
“He has gone for a 10 days trial stint. He will be back on May 27 and the hope is that he impresses,” his agent confirmed yesterday.
If Carlton makes a move, he will join Simba Nhivi who has also joined a Tanzanian club after a fallout with the club.
CAPS United have been forced to look for more reinforcements to give themselves a chance in the CAF Champions league.
After succumbing to a 2-0 loss to Zamalek in their first group match, CAPS United will now meet USM Alger at the National Sports Stadium on Wednesday.
It is a match they must win at all cost if they are to remain on track for a quarter-final place in the competition. Al Ahli Tripoli are the fourth team in group B of the 2017 edition.
