THOUSANDS of fans defied the wet weather on New Year’s Eve to attend the Castle Lite Extra Cold Block Party held at Westgate Shopping Mall.

The shopping mall was a hive of activity as early as 6pm with music lovers and party freaks filling the open parking area.

The rains, which pounded most parts of the country, did not deter merry-makers.

The event saw different wheel-spinners having a good day in the office as they kept fans on the wet dance floor.

The line-up included DJ Elroy, DJ Storm, DJ Chucknosis, Reverb 7 and the fans’ favourites Judgment Yard among others.

Castle Lite brands and marketing manager, Kundayi Mawema said:

“We have reached new levels with fans, this year’s party was outstanding and we saw a record crowd turning up for the event.

“Everything went down well and again we wish to thank all the fans for their support.”

Local acts who also took to stage include the energetic dancehall star Dobba Don who made his stage presence worth the wait.

His hit, Mudendere, instantly brought to life the party and another sense of belonging in 2017 for revellers.

Rapper Tehn Diamond also put up a sterling act that made him dear to most of the youthful revellers who sang along to his songs.

The coordination between the artistes and deejays was commendable such that Bulawayo outfit Djembe Monks’ slot was well put up.

Djembe Monks performed alongside one of the DJs as a cover up.

However, chaos rocked the VIP section as some fans tried to break in when it continued to rain heavily.

The security that had been deployed managed to contain the situation.
