Caught with US$300k cocaine
16 May 2017
A 32-YEAR-OLD woman has appeared in court on a charge of dealing in dangerous drugs after she was found in possession of cocaine worth US$304 000 in her luggage.
Beauty Mutashu pleaded not guilty to the charge and told the court that she was not aware that there was cocaine in the bags that she had been sent to collect from Brazil by one Mildred.
She has been remanded in custody to May 19 on routine remand.
Circumstances are that on May 12 this year, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics stationed at Harare International Airport received information that Mutashu was carrying dangerous drugs on an UAE flight from Brazil.
When the flight arrived, Mutashu went through customs where one of the customs officers identified her and directed her to some detectives who were on standby for monitoring.
It is reported that she had two bags with her as her luggage which were searched in her presence by the detectives.
Inside the bags, it is alleged, there were 11 shirts each wrapping a rectangle aluminium foil containing suspected cocaine.
These shirts were recovered from both bags concealed amongst some clothes.
Mutashu was immediately arrested and the cocaine seized
The recorded weight of the cocaine is 3.8kgs valued at US$304 000.
Harare magistrate Barbara Chimboza presided over the matter whilst Sebastian Mutizirwa represented the State.
