CHAMPIONS TO WIELD AXE
3 June 2018
CHAMPIONS FC Platinum will wield the axe on one of their strikers to accommodate new signing Thomas Chideu.
Chideu has since completed his move to FC Platinum coming from South Africa to beef up the log leaders’ attack.
Yesterday club spokesperson Chido Chizondo said coach Norman Mapeza will make the decision on the player that will create space for the former Highlanders and Ajax Cape Town star.
“Yes, Chideu is now officially with us as we announced. On who will replace him, it will all depend on the coach. He will make the decision with his technical team,” said Chizondo.
FC Platinum currently have Mkhokheli Dube, Albert Eonde, Nigel Papias and Farai Mupasiri as strikers that were registered for the first half of the season.
Judging from the game time that the strikers have been getting, only Mkhokheli and Eonde seem to be the two guaranteed to be part of the registered squad in the second half of the season.
Papias or Mupasiri could be loaned elsewhere to make way for the new striker as already speculated.
FC Platinum go into the second half of the season as favourites to win the title after taking a comfortable lead just before the break.
With defender Kelvin Moyo’s future uncertain after interest from Supersport United, the champions know they could be forced to further adjust their squad.
“There is nothing certain about Kevin at the moment so there is nothing we can say. These are just trials so we will wait and see the outcome.
“We can only be in a position to make adjustments if he moves,” Chizondo said.
Although, FC Platinum will try to keep their squad together for the second half of the season, chances are there are some players that could try to make a move to look for game time.
One such player is Bret Amidu who has been linked with Dynamos for a loan deal.
Amidu has found it difficult to get a place in midfield at a time the likes of Farai Madhanhanga, Rodwell Chinyengere and Never Tigere are in top form.
“No decision has been made on any other move. The only deal completed is that of Chideu and nothing else have been done,” Chizondo said.
