Chimwemwe leaves Herentals
9 February 2018
HERENTALS have endured a setback in their build up for their Premier Soccer League debut as impressive forward Denzel Chimwemwe has returned to the First Division with Harare City in the Northern Region Soccer League.
Chimwemwe has been an integral part of Herentals strikeforce since joining the club on a year’s contract in 2017 –a season he netted 10 goals in the club’s NRSL championship triumph.
As everything looked set that Chimwemwe would continue at Herentals and make an individual Premiership debut, he surprisingly didn’t renew his contract and opted for the City Fathers.
“We lost Denzel. Shockingly he just told me that he is going to Harare City. That’s the only one missing but the rest of the players are there,” Herentals coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva told H-Metro.
Chimwemwe’s lethal attacking combination with the Majarira brothers -Blessing and Archmore- and Innocent Benza was a marvel to watch and it made Herentals the team to beat offensively.
Mutiwekuziva admits that Chimwemwe’s dexterity will be missed but Herentals will find suitable replacements from within the squad and move on.
“It’s a gap but there are very good replacements for him considering that we had other players who had little game time so this is their time to play and shine.
“Preparations so far we are in full gear for the season. Preparations going on well with the squad that we had in Division One,” he said.
