Chinese caught with $50 000 bond notes
5 October 2017
Three Chinese nationals have been dragged to court facing accusations of selling cash.
Fang Wei,35, Wu Huanjiu, 42, and Wei Wei were not asked to plead when they appeared at the Harare magistrate’s court facing charges of contravening section 5(1)a(11) of the exchange control act chapter 22:05 as read with section 2 of the exchange control (amendment) regulations 2017(No 5) S.I122A of 2017.
Their bail hearing has been set for today.
Allegations are that on October 3 this year, detectives from CID Homicide Harare received information that the first accused person was selling cash at a premium.
Acting on information received, detectives proceeded to number 136 Seke road, Harare to gather more information on the suspect dealing in currency transactions, it is alleged.
The court heard that the detectives followed the accused person’s motor vehicle.
It is the State’s case that the detectives then searched the vehicle and recovered $50 000 bond notes stashed in a box.
Further allegations are that the accused person was then arrested and later implicated the second and third accused persons as his accomplices.
