CHINGWA Boozers beat Greats 4-2 on penalties to lift the MASL Charity Cup after the two teams had drawn nil-all at Alex Sports Club over the weekend.

The tension filled match, characterised by rough tackles, marked the beginning of the MASL season, with league games set to begin this weekend.

Other tournament participants, SB Londoners and Climbers FC, were knocked out by Chingwa Boozers and Greats FC respectively, by an identical one nil margin.

Speaking to H-Metro after winning on penalties, Chingwa Boozers coach Dolla Nyoni underscored the need for more players to come on board and support social soccer.

“Of course, I am happy about the victory and the organisation by every member. We are grateful for the timely sponsorship from Optimus Motors by Wilson Chimbuya.

“The other important thing is for scouts to come through our league, there is so much talent here. We have professional players who are coming to join our league after retirement, likewise, we have young blood that yearn to be in the topflight league, scouts should also keep an eye on us,” said Nyoni.

Nyoni’s opposite, Takudzwa Mujena, congratulated the winning side and blamed his loss on a lack of tactics.

Meanwhile, the league sponsor and director of Optimus Motors, Wilson Chimbuya, said he hopes for a good MASL season.

“We are humbled to be sponsoring the MASL. The league brings interactions and opportunities for organisational growth, so above all, we hope for a good start till the end of the league games,” said Chimbuya.
