Chombo can flee country

. . . Chipanga safer in custody
HARARE magistrate Josephine Sande yesterday denied ex-ZANU PF Secretary for Youth Affairs Kudzanai Chipanga bail stating that remaining in custody is good for his safety and security.
The magistrate ruled that there were compelling reasons to deny Chipanga bail, including him being a flight risk, likelihood to interfere with witnesses and that if released from custody, because of public anger, people are likely to mete justice at him.
Meanwhile, magistrate Elisha Singano presided over former finance minister Ignatius Chombo’s bail ruling.
The magistrate denied Chombo because the State demonstrated that the accused still wields power and influence over his former subordinates hence is likely to interfere with witness.
The magistrate also pointed that Chombo is a man of means and well connected hence can flee from jurisdiction since Zimbabwean borders are porous and that his safety might be jeopardised if granted bail.
Chombo and Chipanga are represented by Lovemore Madhuku.
Edmore Nyazanda represented the State.
