Chombo, Chipanga approach High Court
30 November 2017
THE lawyer representing former Finance minister Ignatius Chombo and expelled ZANU PF Youth Leader Kudazanai Chipanga, Professor Lovemore Madhuku, yesterday approached the High Court to appeal his clients’ bail denial.
Professor Madhuku filed applications appealing the denial of bail by two magistrates from the lower court.
Magistrates Josephine Sande and Elisha Singano on Monday denied bail for Chipanga and Chombo.
Professor Madhuku indicated the cases will be heard Friday at the High Court.
Chipanga was denied bail by magistrate Sande who ruled it was in the interest of his safety to remain in custody and be protected from public anger.
For Chombo, Singano ruled that he is a man of means and well connected hence can flee the court’s jurisdiction, even without a passport, since Zimbabwean boarders are porous and that his safety might be jeopardised if granted bail.
