PREMIERSHIP’S top scorer Dominic Chungwa has been rewarded by Warriors coach Sunday Chidzambwa with a call for national duty.
The CAPS United striker is part of the provisional squad of 29 set to start camp today ahead of the 2017 CECAFA tournament. The tournament, set to be played in Kenya, will start from December 3 to 17.
Chidzambwa told H-Metro that he could not afford to ignore the country’s top scorer.
“Look, he is our best scorer in the country and we cannot afford to ignore him. We came up with the best possible squad and we will trim it to 20 before we leave.
“We are hoping that camp starts seriously tomorrow (today) because we do not have a lot of time left,” said Chidzambwa.
The squad announced also sees Patson Jaure bouncing back into the team. Jaure was vice-captain to Knowledge Musona when they Warriors floored Liberia 3-0 in an AFCON qualifier at the National Sports Stadium.
FC Platinum outstanding midfielder Rodwell Chinyengetere has also been rewarded for his good performances in the champions’ colours whilst Cosafa Castle Cup hero Ocean Mushure is also part of the squad.
“We had to look at all the good options we could have and we believe most of the players we have selected had a good season,” said the coach.
Asked on the belief that some are good club players and their form may not translate to being good national team players, he said: “I don’t think there is anything like that. If a player can be good for the club, he can easily be a good player for the national team when properly handled as well. Football is just the same.
“We are hoping that those we have selected will rise up to the occasion. We will select the best 20 from the squad we have selected.”
