…as Foxes record fifth straight win

DEFENDING champions, Harare City Hornets, are set to return to the Harare Basketball Association Men’s A League action this week following their participation at the FIBA Africa Club Championship Preliminaries in Botswana.

City Hornets returned home on Sunday having made history by becoming the first Zimbabwean team to earn a fifth place ranking at the FIBA Africa Club Championship Preliminaries.

At this tournament, City Hornets registered two wins over Botswana sides; Troopers (90-47) and Dolphins (75-53) and conceded four defeats 98-54 to Libolo, 97-61 to Inter Clube (both from Angola), 84-71 to Ferroviario de Beira and 71-63 to Ferroviario de Maputo (both from Mozambique).

These results were good enough for City Hornets to break a previous record of a sixth-place finish by JBC at the 2013 tournament in Zambia.

“It was self-fulfilling to rub shoulders with the best of Africa and to face different styles from different countries in such a compressed period of time,” City Hornets coach Langton ‘LK’ Moyo told H-Metro.

However, City Hornets will have limited time to rest and recover and will probably have a little bit of pressure as they are expected to resume their HBA title defense this Saturday.

City Hornets have two outstanding games against Glen View Rockets and UZ Stars.

Moyo backs his charges to come good in the upcoming league matches banking on experience they had in Botswana.

“We are certainly better equipped knowledge wise and can’t wait to implement our knowledge on our next assignments. You participate in Zone 6 and you basketball life will never be the same,” he said.

Meanwhile, Foxes continued with their unbeaten run in the Men’s A League as they beat Varsity Leopards 84-58 to record their fifth victory of the season.
