COP JAILED OVER ASSAULT
4 January 2017
A POLICE officer has been jailed 10 months for kicking a man on his leg and seriously injuring him.
Agripah Zimudzo, 26, was found guilty when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Kudzai Zihove charged with assault.
He was initially sentenced to 14 months behind bars before four months was suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
The remaining 10 months shall be effective.
The State, represented by Richard Makondo, told the court that on March 14 2016 at around 5pm, Zimudzo and Charles Nyati, a member of the police neighbourhood watch received a report at Granary Police Post that Campbell Dzapasi had assaulted his wife.
Zimudzo and Nyati went to attend the matter and managed to arrest Dzapasi and handcuffed him.
On their way to Granary Police post Dzapasi, resisted to be taken to the cells.
He insulted and threatened the two police officers but this did not go well with them.
Nyati got hold of Dzapasi while Zimudzo kicked him on the right leg and he fell down.
While he was still down, Zimudzo kicked him again on the same leg.
He was taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where he was admitted.
A medical report showed that the degree of injury is serious implicating a permanent injury.
