MODERN African designer Christabel Mujuru Mudawu loves the controversy that comes with being a fashionista and pastor’s wife.
The 28-year old, who got married and wedded in December last year, told H-Metro she and her husband are her fashion brand Chrystyles (OYA) Own Your Afristyle’s models.
Chrystyles, which recently relocated from Bulawayo, is set to make a mark in Norton where their new shop is located.
“We had a shop in Bulawayo then I got married in December last year and my husband was transferred to Norton.
“It took us six months to find a suitable place for business here in Norton that would allow and accommodate all the machines we have.
“We are our own models, it’s fun, we enjoy being together as a young couple, above all my husband is a pastor and I love the controversy,” Christabel said.
The designer received necessary training at Target Center College of Cutting And Designing in Bulawayo after having been a Fashion and Fabrics student at high school.
Christabel designed and dressed her bridesmaids on her wedding day to her taste in stylish floor length bright and beautiful green dresses.
“Since these are my own designs, the brand name is derived from my name Christabel.
“I have been in the industry since I left college in 2008, that’s about nine years now but designing has always been my passion since childhood.
“I believe everyone is beautiful in his/her own way and how you dress has the ability to bring out the best of and in you so I am inspired by the beauty of all mankind yet unexpressed ,the art of God,” she told H-Metro.
Chrystyles is said to be a modern African style dominated brand and the head designer said though this is their signature look they are very diverse in their designs.
She also went on to say that the Zimbabwean fashion industry has a lot of talent that is yet to be discovered.
“Zimbabwean fashion industry is full of talented and gifted people who have the ability and potential to be international competitors but are just not fully promoted and exposed,” Christabel said.
The designer also said that she is very content that her childhood dream has come to pass and that she is grateful for her husband’s support.
