FC PLATINUM FALL IN ANGOLA
11 February 2018
FC PLATINUM now have ‘mission impossible’ after the heavy 3-0 defeat to Desportivo de Agosto at Estádio 11 de Novembro yesterday.
They will now need to score four goals without reply in the reverse fixture of the CAF Champions league preliminary round at Mandava.
And if the Angolans score, Norman Mapeza will need to win by a four goal margin, mission impossible for the Zimbabwean side whose biggest win in the league last year was a 3-0 win over an out of sorts ZPC Kariba at Mandava on November 4.
Going into the game yesterday, FC Platinum were aware that they needed to minimise damage against the 11-time Angolan champions who won the title last year at the back a strong home performance.
Desportivo de Agosto’s league record last year show they only lost one home game to local side Kabuscorp 2-1 out of the 30 matches.
Of those 30 games, they also drew 0-0 with Recreativo Caála to ensure that they collected 40 out of a possible 45 points at home, an 88.9 percent home success rate.
It is also the same Kabuscorp that managed to get a double over Desportivo de Agosto, winning the first leg 2-0 home and 2-1 away on the last day of action.
If FC Platinum manage to do the impossible in that reverse fixture, they are likely to face ABSA Premiership side Bidvest Wits.
The Angolans, led by coach Zoran Maqui, assisted by Filipe Nzanza and Ivo Traça, played more friendly matches before yesterday’s game.
They scored 30 goals and conceded two in their eight preparatory games before they faced FC Platinum yesterday.
