A 23-YEAR-OLD man, who has been found in possession of one round of ammunition, stunned the court as he said he picked it up from the bin thinking it was a crayon.
Brighton Mhodyokai pleaded guilty when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Tafadzwa Miti charged with possession of dangerous weapons.
He will know his fate today.
“Your Worship, I picked it up from the bin because I thought it was a crayon,” said Modyokai.
He argued that he is self employed and he goes around picking up empty bottle drinks and empty tins of peanut butter and on this particular day he thought he had picked up a ’crayon’ while on his business.
“I am self employed so I go around picking up empty bottle drinks and empty peanut butter tins,” he said.
During mitigation he stated he once had a mental illness and he would like to call his father to get money for use while in prison.
“I once had a mental illness and I would want to call my father and ask for some money to use while I am in jail,” he pleaded.
The State represented by Kholisani Mangena heard that on October 20 at around 2pm, Modyokai was found carrying a bag and it was suspected that it was full of stolen clothes.
He was taken to Mbare Police Station by Lawrence Mamvura and as he was being searched no stolen clothes were found.
Instead they found one round of ammunition, which he indicated was a crayon he picked up in the bin.
