‘Granddaughter seduced me’
22 January 2018
THE trial of an 83-year-old Harare man facing charges of raping his 14-year-old granddaughter kicked off with the accused in his defence telling the court that his daughter seduced him.
Moyo, whose full name cannot be printed to protect the minor, told Harare regional magistrate Lucy Mungwari that he can no longer have sex because of an erectile dysfunction.
“Your worship, I did not commit the crime as alleged. The complainant is the one who came to me and on the occasions reported that I raped her and started removing my pants.
“She seduced me because she further held my genital. Because of my age, I am no longer sexually active because I was told by the doctor that I have an erectile dysfunction. Handichaite bonde,” he said.
The State led by Ephraim Zinyandu is trying to prove that Moyo on three occasions raped his granddaughter in April 2016 after the latter had been left in his custody when people had gone to attend a funeral.
On two other occasions the accused is said to have taken advantage and raped the minor when people had gone to church and to attend their crops in the fields.
Moyo is alleged to have told his granddaughter that he always has sex with his other granddaughters hence there was nothing awkward.
The matter was remanded to today for continuation. Moyo is in custody.
