Hamilton Masakadza

INDICATIONS are that Hamilton Masakadza could be Zimbabwe Cricket captain for the T20 International triangular series against Australia and Pakistan commencing at Harare Sports Club this Sunday.

The 34-year-old appears to be the leading candidate to be named Chevrons captain with a wealth of experience that includes 36 Tests, 193 ODIs and 52 T20Is.

Zimbabwe Cricket are yet to make an announcement in regards to the new captain with convener of selectors Walter Chawaguta saying the matter is still on the table.

“The issue of the captain is currently being discussed and will be announced in due course,” he said.

However, early discussions by ZC had Hamilton’s name being tossed around especially in the absence of other senior players.

Hamilton has captained Zimbabwe in all the three formats before. He was sacked as captain in 2016 alongside then coach Dav Whatmore.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe could end this tri-series on 10th position, ahead of Bangladesh and Scotland, of the ICC T20I Team Ranking should they win all their games against Australia and Pakistan.

But a single victory in this tri-series will make Zimbabwe, currently on 12th position, overtake Scotland to settle on the 11th position.

Australia and Pakistan are expected in Harare tomorrow.
