HERENTALS FRIENDLIES CANCELLED
8 February 2018
PREMIER league debutants Herentals’ planned friendly matches against two clubs from Mozambique have been cancelled.
This is after the two clubs pulled out last minute.
Herentals had invited Ferroviário and one other top flight football team to participate in a 4-day soccer tournament.
The tournament was set for National Sports Stadium from February 6 to 10 courtesy of Herentals.
Herentals manager Oliver Chirenga told HMetro that the tournament was meant to strengthen both the Herentals PSL team and their division one team.
“Both our teams were promoted last season. We have a team in the PSL and another in division 1, so we saw it necessary to organise a tournament that will give our players confidence in tackling their new assignments.
“Unfortunately teams from Mozambique have just informed us that they will not make it to Zimbabwe and that has left us with no option but to cancel.
“Caps United had agreed to participate in the tournament and it is unfortunate the matches have been cancelled,” Chirenga said.
The cancellation, he said, would not stop his team from doing all they can to be in shape.
“We want our team to be strong and be able to sustain a PSL position.
“If circumstances permit, we will try and organise another international friendly match because these matches help us boost confidence.
“For now, we will have to host more local friendlies with both PSL and division 1 teams. Today (yesterday) we will have an in-house friendly between our Division 1 and PSL side,” he said.
