Hope, Sulu take new video to people
2 December 2016
Popular songstress Hope Masike in collaboration with Suluman Chimbetu launched their new video Tingwarire in a bid to maintain their popularity with a different style.
The two musicians fuse Zimbabwe’s mbira with Dendera.
Tingwarire is about two lovers warning each other against dubious characters who imagine themselves as good friends, yet they seek to destroy.
Hope and Sulu are great artistes who have achieved a lot.
They are award winners whose combination ushers in a new era into the Zimbabwe musical arena.
This duet is not only amazing, but legendary.
The video launch was graced by representatives from organisations such as Multichoice Zimbabwe as supporters of Hope Masike’s music.
In an interview with H-Metro, the Public Relations and Publicity Manager Liz Dziva revealed that she was greatly impressed by the duet and as supporters of Masike’s music they greatly convinced by the effort in which the songstress is putting on all her projects.
“I am greatly impressed and convinced by the collaboration between Sulu and Hope because Sulu caters for a different genre as compared to Hope. Their video I am greatly certain that it will appeal to a wider audience. Hence, our agenda is to make such artistes shine at international level”, said Liz.
For a popularly known musician, it must be frustrating for Hope Masike to be considered as an artiste for upmarket audiences only.
Hope Masike’s publicist Lucky Muzava mentioned that the collaboration with Sulu in the video production was aimed at making sure the artiste, who has toured half the world, gets to be cherished by a bigger audience.
“She has toured extensively, but she remains stuck in the upmarket. Of course the high-class market is a significant audience, but the numbers that essentially frequent gigs are in the ghetto so joining forces with artistes like Suluman in this video should assist us get that audience,” said Lucky.
Previously, Hope has fused mbira with hip hop in an EP with Zimbabwe Christian Hip Hop band the Monkey Nuts, mbira and Scandinavian Jazz with the international trans-cultural band Monoswezi.
