I thought it was my hubby: Rape victim
21 October 2017
A HARARE woman yesterday told the court that she got involved romantically with her co-tenant who had sneaked in her blankets for eight minutes without noticing that he was not her husband.
Nkosilathi Sibanda, 27, pleaded not guilty to raping his 25-year-old co-tenant when he appeared before Harare regional magistrate Hosiah Mujaya.
The State, led by Timothy Makoni, is alleging that Sibanda tiptoed from his bedroom while naked in the wee hours and got into the woman’s blankets while the light was off and started caressing and kissing her.
In his defence, Sibanda said he was almost in love with the complainant.
When the complainant took to the witness stand, she told the court that she was caressed, kissed and involved romantically for almost eight minutes with the accused without knowing that the latter was not her husband.
She said when the accused then decided to go on top of her, she was “poked” by his penis and she realised the accused’s weight was different from her husband’s.
The complainant told the court she jumped from the bed and rushed to switch on the light only to see Sibanda.
She further said she followed the accused to his room that is when he wore his under garment.
Before her cross-examination, the trial was made to proceed in-camera and is expected to continue today.
