Harare socialite, model and entrepreneur, Jacqueline Tinovimba Ngarande, has expressed concern over the increase of cyber bullying against single mothers on different social media platforms.

The 28-year-old beauty, who disclosed to have been raised by a single mother made the remarks on the sidelines of the Single Mother Foundation event where she was made the brand ambassador.

“I am currently not on social media because there is too much hate being spread on various social media platforms.

“The most affected group of people are single mothers, a lot of derogatory things are being said about them and this is something that really worries me a lot since I was raised by a single mother.

“I feel honoured to have been made a brand ambassador for The Single Mother Foundation.

“With the power vested in me by this organisation, I will do all I can in improving the lives of single mothers that will be willing to work with us,” she said.

Being married is a blessing from God but being a single mother is also something that people should not look down upon.

“I feel women should have the liberty to walk out of abusive relationship if things fail to work with their partners.

“The stigmatisation against single mothers has caused many women to live in abusive marriages just because they are afraid to be labelled as mothers,” she said.

On her role as the brand ambassador, Jackie said she will be empowering single mothers through financial and emotional support.

“Our organisation is focusing on providing support on anything that concerns women.

“Currently, we are assisting women in Mabvuku, Marondera and Goromonzi and it is our hope that we will work with more women.

“We provide counselling sessions for single mothers and also create a network for them and we are also empowering them financially through different projects,” she said.

Tinaye

Meanwhile, Single Mother Foundation Deputy Chief Executive Officer Tinaye Zenenga said they are honoured to be having Jackie as their brand ambassador.

“A lot of people have been asking us why Jackie when she is not even a single mother but the fact that she was raised by one was a good reason for us to have her as one of us.

“She has also seen that she has a genuine burden for single mothers and we are honoured to have her as our brand ambassador because she is a woman of high repute and everything she touches turns to gold,” he said.
