A 21-year-old man has been jailed 10 years after he was found in possession of one elephant task.
Onismo Tafirei of Chitungwiza initially pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Harare magistrate Josephine Sande.
He was convicted after a full trial and was jailed 10 years.
The State proved that on December 29, last year, at around 10am, detectives from Minerals and Border Control Unit Provincial Headquarters received information to the effect that Tafirei was in possession of one elephant task and was looking for a buyer.
The detectives acted to the information and met Tafirei at Zengeza 3 Shopping centre in Chitungwiza.
Tafirei entered into the detectives’ car holding a black satchel.
He took one elephant task and handed it over to Detective Assistant Inspector Ndlovu.
The detectives then identified themselves as police officers by producing their identity cards and Tafirei was arrested for possessing an elephant task without a license.
The recovered ivory weighed 1.018kg.
