…Rhinos still missing Chevrons stars

BULAWAYO Metropolitan Tuskers will remain under the guidance of caretaker coaches Pollock Mubobo and Mbekezeli Mabuza until head coach Wayne James resurfaces.

Tuskers take on Midlands Rhinos in the Pro50 Championship One Day cricket game at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo tomorrow hoping to move into touching distance with pacesetters Manicaland Mountaineers.

Mountaineers will also be looking to extend their lead when they visit Rising Stars at Takashinga Cricket Club in Harare.

Harare Metropolitan Eagles have a bye.

However, attention has been at Tuskers where there is change within their technical department as James continues to stay away from his duties.

Tuskers administrator Nick Singo told H-Metro that they have to continue doing business without James who hasn’t been available since the completion of the 2018 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier.

“At the moment Pollock and Mabuza are in charge. Wayne, at the moment, indicated that he has taken a bit of a leave until he has cleared a few issues. He is sorting out his life.”

Indications are that James could be intentionally staying away as a result of being fired by the Zimbabwe Cricket board from the Zimbabwe A side where he was an assistant coach.

Singo added: “we explained to him that that didn’t affect his job as a franchise coach but he insisted on saying that ‘I’m sorting my life’.

“So you really can’t push someone to work with people when you see that they don’t want to work with people.”

Reports also suggest that James might have cut himself off from the Tuskers duties as a sign of objection against his sacking and also that of Heath Streak and company.

Efforts to get a comment from James were fruitless as his mobile hasn’t been reachable in the past three days.

Meanwhile, Rhinos coach Robin Brown also has problems of his own missing the services of six national team players in captain Graeme Cremer, Brendan Taylor, Kyle Jarvis, Solomon Mire, Malcom Waller and Peter Moor.

The sextet is yet to play domestic games since the resumption of the leagues largely due to injury.

H-Metro understands that only Mire is still nursing an ankle injury while the rest will be absent for the Tuskers games due to Craig Ervine’s wedding.
