The Minister of Sport, Arts and Recreation Kazembe Kazembe has hailed the Sino-Zim relationship in cementing arts and cultural exchange between the two countries.
Minister Kazembe made the remarks during the just ended China Spring Festival Show which was held on Saturday at the 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale.
“Cultural exchange in sport, arts and recreation is important in cementing Zimbabwe-China relations especially in this new dispensation that we are living in.
“Our countries need to continue to learn and lean on each other.
“We know China is unparalleled in making the arts and culture conduits for their development which has also prospered them in recreation business where China is ranked third in the world in terms of recreation development.”
Added the minister: “China is increasingly a rising sporting powerhouse that has transformed from being an ordinary Olympic participant to being the biggest contender amongst sporting nations.”
Meanwhile, the minister has also pledged support to establish a China Culture Centre in Zimbabwe.
“This is the vision that my ministry’s Arts, Culture and Heritage Policy seeks to create an environment where creative and cultural industries thrive as sources of employment.
“I look forward to Zimbabwe-Chinese cooperation towards the realisation of a China Culture Centre and we anticipate that the centre would have state of the art facilities for the culture and creative sector.”
According to the minister, the process of acquiring land for the centre has already begun and it will be used by artists and people from both nations to undertake cultural programmes including learning of languages.
The show, which was hosted by China Africa International Exchange and Research Centre (CAICERC) in conjunction with Jacaranda Culture and Media Corporation by the Embassy of China was a success with a commendable attendance of different races in attendance.
Performances were done by Dream Star Arts Troupe which recently toured Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing while Cindy Munyavi also performed her song Nerudo with Chinese backing vocalists.
