Meet General Bae

. . . new darling of Zim mob

Major Gen Moyo

LAST Wednesday, Zimbabweans woke up to a new face on television.

He may have been clad in army regalia but he has charmed his way into the Zimbabwean populace’s hearts.

His name is Major-General Sibusiso Moyo of the Zimbabwe National Army and he is the man who introduced the new level the army took as he was giving a statement on the current operation.

He has been the face and spokesperson of the operation and he has charmed the nation and made everyone fall in love with soldiers.

Since, that morning, Major-General Moyo is now trending on social media where he has been given several names such as General Bae.

“He is very popular right now. Some young friends of mine are calling him General Bae,” read one Tweet.

Some Zimbabweans have gone to the extent of putting his picture on their WhatsApp profiles and statuses while some even called to honour the Major-General by having a World Sibusiso Moyo Day.

Now, his word is law and people celebrate anything soldiers do largely because of his humble yet authoritative approach.

During the march on Saturday soldiers were getting free drinks, posing for selfies and even getting kisses from yellow-bones.

Before the Major-General’s address it was unthinkable to even get near a ZDF armed soldier, let alone pose for pictures or kiss him.

But Major-General Sibusiso Moyo has shown us that soldiers are also people like us and many posed for pictures next to tankers and posted them on social media.

And with all the uncertainty over what will happen next, most people have resolved to staying away from noticed on social media and trusting the words and announcements of one man – Major-General Sibusiso Moyo.

He has been labelled the only credible source, following the country’s Zimbabwe Defence Forces intervention to bring normalcy to the degenerating political, social and economic situation which they said, if left unchecked, would have resulted in violent conflict.

“Let’s wait for the address by Major-General Sibusiso Moyo, everything else is fake news.”

The Major-General also went to pay tribute to the hundreds of thousands of Zimbabweans who filled the streets of Harare on Saturday in a solidarity march lauding the huge crowds for their discipline throughout the march.

“Ndauya kuzotenda nerutsigiro rwenyu rwamaita kumauto enyu eZimbabwe. Rambai makadaro nerutsigiro irworwo. Mauto enyu navanhu zvakafanana, saka tinotenda chaizvo nezvamaita nhasi.

“Nyaya yamaratidza yediscipline, kuzvibata nekuterera kwaratidza nyika yese kuti vanhu vemuZimbabwe vakafunda.”

Many were demanding to get into State House and have a “taste of the guavas in the orchard” after a march to the perimeter of the Number 1 residence during the march and it was tough for members of the ZDF to stop the onslaught.

But one humble word from Major-General Sibusiso Moyo and people went home in smiles.

“Zvichemo zvenyu tazvinzwa, mukati umu hamuchapinda . . . chidzokerai kumba,” he said and people were on their way.

Major-General Sibusiso Moyo is simply the new, loved voice of authority in the country.

Below are some of the trending Tweets about the Major-General.
