POPULAR socialite and comedian, Madam Boss – real name Tyra Chikocho – stole the show at the CvMaids’ graduation ceremony held at The Flame Borrowdale, Harare last Saturday.
Madam Boss, who got a rapturous reception form domestic workers among other guests, gave an inspirational speech at the even facilitated by CvMaids.
Vimbai Mandebvu, who is the public relations officer of CvMaids revealed that Madam Boss was raised by a maid and that she was also once a domestic worker at one point in life.
The organisation also invited Arthur Marara, an attorney, author and motivational speaker to address guests.
“We managed to invite Marara to the ceremony to inspire the graduating maids to dream big regardless of the backgrounds they come from.
“We had also invited Rebecca Chisamba who failed to attend due to other commitments,” she said.
Mandebvu said CvMaids is the brainchild of Tawanda Gorondondo and his wife Linda Gorondondo.
“CvMaids is an organisation that train maids and give them employment opportunities and also helps them on legal matters.
“The organisation was formed by Tawanda who is passionate about maids since his mother was a maid.
“Tawanda and his wife Linda are the ones who are behind the organisation.
“Linda is the Managing Director of CvMaids and she is doing a remarkable job to uplift the lives and aspirations of the underrated women in society, especially maids,” she told H-Metro.
CvMaids has deployed more than a 100 maids.
“The organisation has groomed 280 students and deployed 172 maids who are already working.
“The recent graduation has seen 31 students graduating,” said Mandebvu.
“The organisation is making an impact in terms of protecting the maids and helping them on deciding their minimum wage.
“CvMaids is growing and its aim is to give maids a good working environment and they should be respected since their job mainly involves taking care of the society.”
