MAN DEMANDS US$10 000
18 May 2017
A HARARE man has approached the civil courts claiming US$10 000 in adultery damages from his erstwhile wife’s boyfriend.
Junnias Chibokotoko is suing Timothy Masuka for siring a child with his former wife and wrecking his marriage of more than 18 years.
Junias discovered that Timothy and Ellah Mbengo had long had a relationship when he saw a birth certificate stating that Timothy was the father of their fourth child.
The three used to go to the same church and Junias is still appalled that Timothy could wreck his marriage.
“I want him to pay for destroying my marriage. We had been married for over 18 years and I thought we had four children together. Just last year, I got to find out, through our fourth child’s birth certificate, that he is the father,” fumed Junias.
Thomas is denying wrecking Junnias’ marriage denying ever sleeping with his erstwhile wife.
Junnias insists that Thomas is responsible arguing that he was already suspecting that his wife of more than 18 years was cheating when she started denying him conjugal rights among other challenges he had with his erstwhile wife.
“There was no more evidence I needed to be convinced that my wife has been cheating on me with Timothy when I saw the child’s birth certificate on which Timothy was stated as the father.
“Before I saw the child’s birth certificate I suspected that my wife was having a sexual relationship with another man because she used to deprive me of my conjugal rights.
“We would go for four months without having sex and she started living a secretive life that brought so many unanswered questions to me.
“I have suffered emotionally as well because my mind has not been at peace because of everything that has been happening,” said Junnias.
Recounting how his marriage had subsequently crumbled following the affair, Junnias said although he had his suspicions about the two, he had so much trust for his wife such that he quickly dismissed his fears. Little did he know that the two had taken advantage of his trust.
He added that he also felt betrayed by Ellah and Timothy since he thought their relationship was purely friendship.
“I always had my suspicions but I then thought it was farfetched until I found the birth certificate in 2016 which confirmed that my fears were true.
“My wife and Timothy are church mates and Timothy is married so I was not quick to suspect that anything was going on between them.
“That is how my marriage crumbled and I believe he has to pay me for the pain he has caused me. He destroyed my family and believe me it is not a healthy situation for children to grow in a broken family,” he further argued in his affidavit.
