MANYAME Residents Trust and Chitungwiza Residents Trust have commended council for its stakeholder engagement in the re-planning exercise for settlements in the district.

The Trusties yesterday commended Manyame Rural District Council for not rushing to demolish structures in the area of its jurisdiction as it accommodated all residents in the new plan.

“Many councils countrywide have rushed to demolish people’s houses but the approach with Manyame is a different one as they have taken into cognizance the people’s right to shelter.

“Those whose structures are not in the plan were offered other places where they fit into planned settlements,” said Innocent Chasvinura of Manyame Residents Trust.

He said council was working hard to ensure that there are roads within the settlements created in its area of jurisdiction.

“We now have roads in the area and recently earth moving equipment was commissioned which has seen roads being opened.

“This has seen the re-planning of Phase One and Two in the area being done in a proper way. The settlement is now an urban one in no time at all,” said Chasvinura.

Munyaradzi Rumano said stakeholder engagement by council saw conceited efforts by both parties to construct Kerry Bridge.

“The road network had improved because of stakeholder engagement by council such that Kerry Bridge was spruced up.

“The bridge now links an area that is important in the planning process. The earth moving equipment is being put to good use and Manyame is developing at a fast rate,” said Rumano of Ward 8.

He said good corporate governance can be noted in how council is putting to use the commissioned equipment.

“Some thought that the equipment would lie idle but that is not the case. Works that are seen are self-evident,” he added.

Tichaona Munhunepi of Ward 8 applauded council for introducing what is termed Easy Way of Doing Business whereby all applications are attended to and feedback given within five working days.

“If you make an application with other councils it would be the end of it but with Manyame feedback is given in five working days. This Easy Way of Doing Business has greatly helped such that queries are attended to in just five days or less,” said Munhunepi.

Chitrest being represented by Marvelous Khumalo said it was a positive move by Manyame to improve and expand the road network linking Chikwanha Shopping Centre and Zengeza 4.

“We commend the good work on expanding the road network. The road had become a sorry sight but resurfacing is underway for the town’s busiest township.

“This shows that Manyame is being efficiently run. We applaud the rate of professionalism within the council,” said Khumalo.

Council chairman Naison Mudzara said they were still having challenges in certain areas but commended the ratepayers for making Manyame viable.

“With the help of ratepayers we have managed to run the council well. Ratepayers are key stakeholders who have seen our council managing to survive though there are still some challenges,” Mudzara said.
