FC PLATINUM coach Norman Mapeza is favourite to win Coach of the Month for June when statistics are considered.
The sponsors have called for votes of that particular month, a period each team played three games.
Recently there was debate about the selection of Mapeza for May, a month both FC Platinum and Tonderai Ndiraya’s Ngezi Platinum collected the same points but the latter showing ruthlessness in front of goal.
So far Ndiraya has won the first two awards while Mapeza won the last award.
Other football analysts though argue that while statistics are important to consider when selecting Coach of the Month and Player of the Month, other factors must also be considered.
Bulawayo Chiefs coach Garthly Chipuka whose giant killing acts have gone unnoticed has been an example.
For the month of June, FC Platinum have managed nine points from three games, a period they also beat Ngezi Platinum to take over as the log leaders.
They have since opened a six point gap at the top going into the second half of the season.
Godfrey Tamirepi’s ZPC Kariba were also unbeaten in the same month but dropped two points, managing seven points in the process.
Inform Black Rhinos, under Herbert Maruwa, also collected three points in a period they shocked the big guns.
Triangle, CAPS United, Chicken Inn, Bulawayo Chiefs and Dynamos managed six points in the period under review.
It is also period FC Platinum had the best strike-rate and one of the best defence, scoring seven and conceding one. Triangle are the other only team to have conceded just a goal.
