MUKANGA WARNS MAPEZA
7 February 2018
NGEZI Platinum midfielder Walter has warned FC Platinum to avoid conceding free-kicks against their Angolan opponents, Desportivo de Agosto in the CAF Champions league.
Mukanga played both legs against another Angolan opponent Clube Recreativo Desportivo do Libolo in the CAF Confederation Cup last year.
Ngezi Platinum lost 2-1 in the first leg away and then played a goalless draw in the reverse fixture to bow out of the tournament.
“In terms of quality, there is nothing much to write home about Angolan teams. The one we played in particular showed that they just have resources but we were even better.
“Those two goals they scored against us, set pieces, killed us. We should have finished them in the return leg but then, we failed to find the target,” Mukanga told H-Metro yesterday.
“FC Platinum must be very careful how they defend corners and free-kicks at the edge of the box. Normally these teams have very tall players and I know it will be the same against their opponents.
“So they will always have an advantage when it comes to the high balls and they will utilise that,” he added.
FC Platinum face Desportivo de Agosto at Estádio 11 de Novembro on Sunday in the preliminary round, first leg tie.
Mukanga added: “Playing away was very intimidating but I don’t know if it will be the same with their opponents. So we had to be very strong and come out with a result, something we failed to do.”
FC Platinum are expected to leave for Angola today and they will have three days to acclimatise.
“Everyone knows it is very hot there and humid. If they can go earlier the better for them to get used to the occasions. We wish them the very best though.
“We can’t really say FC Platinum’s style is very different from ours. It is similar and they have what it takes to do well against Angolan opponents,” he said.
