7 November 2017
OUTSPOKEN rapper Mzimba – real name Webster Tinashe Manjoro – has fallen on hard times.
Mzimba, fondly known as Cheyameni, is struggling to fend for his family after vendors were chased from the CBD where he used to sell his wares.
In an interview, Cheyameni said he is struggling to put food on the table.
“My friend things are not well at all but I don’t want to talk much.
“You actually know that these days I was relying more in vending in the streets but nowadays we have been chased away from the CBD.
“It has been while without even pocketing US$5 dollars.
“I am not getting shows to ease my problems,” said the rapper.
“As we speak, many people have been surviving on this but it’s now a different story at all.
“My fear is that these vendors will turn into robbers as a way of earning a living.
“I feel the officials should allow us to continue selling our things, mabasa hakuna ma1.”
Asked about his musical plans before year end, he said:
“I can’t really say I can depend fully on music because I am not getting a lot from music.
“Even though when things are tough I will soldier on so that I realise my goals.
“If we get support from music stakeholders we will do better and compete with genres in other countries.”
Cheyameni is enjoying rave reviews of his love song Do you mind (Ozemwa) which is doing well in the market.
In the love song he mocked Amara Brown’s body structure.
Meanwhile, he is working on his third album.
