NDORO NAMED CAPTAIN
8 November 2017
WARRIORS future coach could be forced to revise the captaincy hierarchy with the coming in of new faces into the team.
Tendai Ndoro will captain the Warriors against Lesotho today in the absence of Knowledge Musona.
Musona was ruled out through injury picked Sunday night playing for his club K.V. Oostende as they beat Zulte Waregem 4-2.
Musona had been appointed skipper by Norman Mapeza for the first AFCON qualifier.
Ngezi Platinum defender Patson Jaure, who is recovering from a fractured finger, was the vice-captain for the Liberia game which the Warriors won 3-0, with Musona grabbing a hat-trick.
Now with Zifa expected to name a substantive coach, the hierarchy could change though Musona is almost guaranteed to be captain.
At the 2017 AFCON finals in Gabon, Willard Katsande was captain while Cuthbert Malajila was his vice-captain.
A number of players are likely to make their debut for the Warriors today as they face Lesotho. And it is mostly those players likely to have a big say in the future and leadership of the team.
Wilson Mutekede, who is in charge of the Warriors, decided Ndoro will fill the shoes of Musona while Nottingham Forest’s Darikwa will be the vice-captain on his debut.
“Ndoro will be captain for this match while Darikwa is the vice-captain in the absence of Musona,” manager Wellington Mpandare said yesterday.
Ndoro, who made a switch from Orlando Pirates to AL Faisaly before the beginning of the ABSA Premiership, is one of the most senior members of the Warriors squad.
However, under past coaches the striker has never managed to be the preferred option and he had to be content coming from the bench.
With the Warriors set to have a new coach before the next AFCON qualifiers, it is expected that players like Marvelous Nakamba and Kuda Mahachi could also enter the hierarchy depending on which players retain their places in the starting X1.
