SEASONED marathon runner Canisious Nyamutsita has shifted his focus to international competitions.

The Chitungwiza-based athlete, who runs under Mr Pace Athletics club, has won four half marathon races since the beginning of the year, and has vowed to maintain his winning streak.

“I am looking forward to race in Europe and I am optimistic I will represent my country at the Olympics as well as the World Championships,” he told H-Metro.

“I won the JM Busha, Nkulumane, Tanganda and the Commissioner General of Police race in Chitungwiza.

“I am confident I will continue to maintain stride as I am now preparing for the Westgate and Vumba half marathon to be held soon.

“All the races I have participated in are so tough but I have managed to sail through.

“The competition especially in Zimbabwe is great and it needs a lot of hard work.

“We have so much talent in Zimbabwe but however we lack sponsorship. A major setback in most of the talented young runners.

“I am appealing to the corporate world and well-wishers to help our sport as most of us benefit a lot from them.”

Recently, Nyamutsita along with Bertha Chikanga and club director Colin Makaza were committed to programmes to inspire upcoming athletes.

“I really thank JM Busha for giving us such an opportunity to help our young brothers and sisters in the rural schools,” he said.
