Pastor’s bail conditions eased
7 November 2016
PASTOR Oliver Makomo of AFM Springvale sect in Ruwa last week had his bail conditions relaxed when he appeared in court.
Magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti-Guwuriro scrapped all the reporting conditions which were imposed on the clergyman as part of his bail.
Pastor Makomo was initially ordered to report to police once every week and was granted US$100 bail.
He is expected to be back in court on November 30.
The State alleges that sometime in 2012 Pastor Makomo visited a woman at Ruwa TM Supermarket where she was working.
Pastor Makomo is alleged to have asked for the woman’s phone number and was given before they started communicating until 2013 when he allegedly asked her whether she was still virgin.
The State also alleges that sometime in 2013 the woman called Pastor Makomo with intention to ‘book’ for an appointment since she was having a nose bleeding problem.
Pastor Makomo is said to have invited the congregant to his church office located at No.2 Gallowway Estate in Ruwa where he prayed for her.
Accusations are that Pastor Makomo quickly went to lock the door soon after praying for the woman whilst she was still in his office.
Further allegations are that the man of cloth went on to hug, kiss and insert his fingers into his female congregant’s privates.
The 49-year-old clergyman is alleged to have repeatedly told the woman that ‘all was going to be fine’ before she left his office.
Prosecutor Mutizirwa alleges that the woman did not disclose the sexual attack to anyone considering the trust she had in him and the relationship that existed between him and her parents.
Sometime in 2013, Pastor Makomo is said to have invited the female congregant to his house where she found him with his maid, some visitors and his wife.
Reports are that the woman slept at Pastor Makomo’s house after he told her that she was not supposed to visit his house again in the event that she left before his return.
This was after he had seen off his visitors.
Accusations are that Pastor Makomo sneaked into the spare-bedroom where the woman was sleeping, spat an unknown liquid substance into her mouth.
Pastor Makomo allegedly forcibly removed the woman’s undergarment and raped her.
The woman did not reveal the sexual abuse to anyone and left her pastor’s house at around 11am.
Prosecutor Mutizirwa also alleges that Pastor Makomo raped the 22-year-old sometime in 2014 on the day his wife had gone to South Africa.
On the day in question, the woman went to her pastor’s house after she was invited by his maid only identified as Linda whom she had befriended.
It was on the night of the same day that pastor Makomo followed the woman into the spare bedroom where he had allegedly raped her on the first day she put up at his house.
Accusations are that Pastor Makomo found the woman standing when he entered into the room.
He is alleged to have forced the woman to undress before raping her.
The court heard that the woman did not reveal the sexual abuse since she believed that she was ‘under the control’ of her pastor.
On December 23 2014 Pastor Makomo is alleged to have called his female congregant and invited her to his house on the pretext that he wanted her to meet someone who wanted to deliver some meat.
The woman is said to have complied and went to Pastor Makomo’s house.
Reports are that the woman waited for about 15 minutes before pastor Makomo arrived and handed her some keys for her to unlock the doors at his house.
The State alleges that Pastor Makomo instructed the woman to enter into a spare bedroom where he followed her.
Accusations are that Pastor Makomo kissed and raped the woman before ordering her to leave his house.
The woman reportedly revealed the sexual attack to her boyfriend on August 22 last year.
Her boyfriend is said to have visited Pastor Makomo at his church offices where he expressed his disappointment over the sexual abuse.
Pastor Makomo reportedly told the woman’s boyfriend that it was the work of the devil and asked for forgiveness.
The woman’s boyfriend is said to have gone to tell his lover what the pastor had said.
