Pasuwa, assistants to split
22 December 2016
The Warriors technical team is expected to temporarily split this weekend.
Head coach Kalisto Pasuwa is expected to fly out with the team for an international friendly match against Ivory Coast in Abidjan as part of preparations for the 2017 Gabon Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Gabon.
The Warriors friendly against Ivory Coast will not feature most players announced in the provisional squad for AFCON 2017 and most of the foreign based players will not be available on Christmas day from their bases.
Instead a second string Warriors squad will head to Abidjan for the friendly international set for 26 December.
Tinotenda Kadewere is the only foreign based player in the squad whilst a host of other foreign based players are expected in camp by Christmas but not in time to make the trip.
European based players such as Knowledge Musona, Costa Nhamoinesu will not have been released by their clubs in time for the friendly while the SA based contingent still has matches this week and will only be free after the 22nd.
It is for that reason that one of Pasuwa’s assistants between Mkhuphali Masuku and Saul Chaminuka will stay behind, working with the foreign based players who are expected in camp by Christmas day when the other batch of players will be in Ivory Coast.
Warriors’ manager Sharif Mussa said:
“The technical team will split. Some of the guys will travel to Ivory Coast and certainly, the head coach will go. We are yet to meet as a team to decide who is leaving or going.
“However, one assistant will stay, probably with the fitness trainer among other members. They will stay behind to monitor and put order in camp. We are expecting the foreign based players to be in camp by Christmas and someone must be there to handle training sessions and plan training programs.”
