‘Rape’ Pastor in court
6 January 2016
A PASTOR at By Grace Ministries who grabbed headlines after he featured on Tilder Moyo’s Star FM show and allegedly confessed to bedding three of his congregants yesterday appeared in court facing rape charges.
Pastor Onbet Mapfumo appeared at the Harare magistrates’ court charged with rape.
Mapfumo, who was being represented by lawyer Jonathan Madotsa, was not asked to plead to the charges when he appeared before magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa.
Magistrate Mugwagwa remanded pastor Mapfumo out of custody to February 2 on US$100 bail pending completion of investigations.
State counsel, Audrey Chogumaira, alleges that pastor Mapfumo used to invite his congregants for prayers at his place of residence in Canaan Highfield in the capital.
Reports are that pastor Mapfumo would take his congregants one by one into his room where he would pray for them and deliver them from evil spirits.
The State alleges that pastor Mapfumo would also tell his congregants that he would make some sacrificial prayers in which he was supposed to have sexual intercourse with them.
Pastor Mapfumo told the congregants that the sacrificial prayers would help them break the chains of poverty, according to the State.
During the sacrificial prayers, pastor Mapfumo would smear oil on the woman’s bodies and sexual intercourse with them.
The sexual offences came to light after pastor Mapfumo was invited on Tilder Moyo’s show at Star FM leading to his arrest.
