Rape, robbery suspects nabbed

SUSPECTS who wreaked havoc in Masvingo rural areas where they targeted teachers’ residence at schools, business centres as well as homesteads were arrested on Friday.
The suspects Timothy Dzikira, 26, of Mugeji village under chief Mazungunye in Zaka and Munyaradzi Hama, 28, of Marinda village under chief Chiwara in Gutu are facing five counts of unlawful entry, 21 counts of robbery and two counts of rape.
The two are alleged to have broken into targeted houses and threatened their victims or assaulted them using an axe, sjambok, sling shots or a hammer before taking their property.
In one of the counts they broke into a victims’ house, robbed her of a cellphone and cash and took turns to rape her.
Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) spokesperson Detective Assistant Inspector Portia Chinho confirmed the arrest urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report all suspicious strangers roaming in their areas.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police, CID Masvingo arrested two suspects and during the course of investigations detectives arrested one of the suspects, Timothy Dzikira in Masvingo for a case of theft of motor vehicle,” said Detective Chinho.
“They carried searches at his place of residence and recovered cellphones, cigarettes and a purse which linked the accused to another outstanding case.
“Upon being interviewed the suspect confessed to having committed the heinous crimes in and around Masvingo and implicated his accomplice Munyaradzi,” said Detective Chinho.
