Satanism scare at Makombe

. . . ‘I sucked baby’s blood’
BUSINESS came to a halt yesterday at Makombe Building as workers and national identification applicants jostled to attack a woman suspected to have sucked a two-year-old’s blood.
Ferbie Warikandwa of Highfield was saved by police from instant justice after a two year old boy was found with bleeding cuts on his back, neck and hand crying at his mother Marvellous Matamandire’s back.
Ferbie confessed before the crowd that she sucked the boy’s blood mysteriously under the influence of evil spirits.
“I do not know Marvellous but I want to believe that evil spirits led me to suck her baby’s blood,” said Ferbie.
“Ndirikutoshandiswawo ini zvekuti ndikatoendeswa kujeri ndingatozorora izvezvi handisikuziva kwandiri,” said Ferbie before some people laid hands on her in prayers before she was led to Harare Central police station.
National identity and passport applicants were distracted by the constant crying of the toddler and forced Marvellous to check the baby and discovered that the boy was bleeding and Ferbie was quick to wipe the blood raising suspicion over the bizarre act.
“Ko mauya nemwana akachekwa chekwa musana, mutsipa neruoko sei makamubereka kumusana,” one of the applicants enquired from Marvellous.
“What is mysterious is that the baby is bleeding from the cuts while his clothes are on as well as a towel.
“Ferbie approached me while I was making enquiries over a discrepancy on my son’s birth certificate and from there she was ever by my side,” said Marvellous.
“I never thought of asking what business she was doing that side and I have no one to suspect since I came from home with my son without these scars.
“Pane zvaaita mwana wangu chete ropa razara muviri wake sei,” said Marvellous attracting a crowd and officials accusing Ferbie of sucking the boy’s blood.
Police moved swiftly and took Ferbie to a police post and dispersed people who were baying for her blood and some of the Christians among the officials and applicants started to intercede for the boy.
Ferbie, who first lied to police about her name, opened up after they searched her bag and discovered her national identity card, two birth certificates of different persons, biscuits and baby pampers.
Ferbie failed to give a satisfactory answer to why she was following Marvellous from where birth certificates are processed to where passports are applied.
She told H-Metro that she is not into Satanism saying Marvellous left her with a bag before following her to where passports are applied for.
“I am not into Satanism as what people want everyone to believe,” said Ferbie.
“Vatondisiya nebag rinemari asi handina kuvabira saka mari inokosha kupfuura mwana wavo avarikuti ndini ndamunwa ropa,” said Ferbie.
