… MP undergoes public HIV test
Norton legislator, Temba Mliswa, yesterday responded to social media claims that he is knowingly infecting young girls with HIV by holding an open test in the capital.
Mliswa held a presser at Media Centre before conducting an HIV counselling and test at New Start Centre along Kwame Nkrumah Avenue.
His results came out negative and the outspoken leader posted them on his Twitter handle before receiving further insults with claims that he had bribed authorities.
“As a leader, I will lead from the front, I owe it to the people of Norton who elected me.
“I don’t usually respond to social media slurs but it has been peddled that I am in the habit of infecting underage girls with HIV.
“I deny such frivolous claims with the contempt they deserve,” said Mliswa.
“I have a 27-yeard –old daughter, I don’t date anyone below her age but I can only think of those that have one child or two or three because I know they are my age.
“I always use protection and get tested before I meet any partner,” he added.
Temba’s actions came after a tweet from one Mai Tindo who accused him of infecting a girl in 2013 she identified as Eugenia.
“A person who knowingly infects another person with an STI/HIV nauseates me. @TembaMliswa, we are still dealing neNyaya yako yekupa vana utachiona. I sat down newe in 2013 & begged u. Hauteereri. This time I am exposing you. Eugenia will not die coz of you,” reads the tweet on August 31.
Speaking at his presser, Mliswa said social media has brought up the worst in some people.
“I must admit, social media has brought in the worst, innocent platforms to communicate has been turned into an ugly obscenity.
“This makes one wonder whether a law should be enacted to ensure that people are certified before being allowed to engage on social media.
“Personal vendettas and smear campaigns abound as social media is abused with many becoming gullible to every word or story,” he said.
Before the Norton Member of Parliament had gone for his public testing, his accuser had also tweeted saying;
“Iwe @TembaMliswa, you now want me to release your call recordings? You think I don’t know kuti you gave Masimba wekuDamofalls mari akabhadhara vanhu vanokuTesta? I have all the evidence. I will not let you go on this.”
After posting his results, Temba tweeted:
“Now that @ TindoMai has had her 5s of “fame” I suggest that any “evidence” she has going forward can be submitted to the relevant authorities. Vanohukura vachazongo hukura I rest my case. Let’s however spare a thought for those infected with/affected by HIV/AIDS. God is in control”
