9 August 2017
LEADING radio station Star FM on Monday visited the National Heroes Acre on a familiarisation tour
The aim was to get a brief knowledge about the history of the country’s liberation struggle and also the heroes of this country.
Star FM public relations officer, Vivian Mugarisi, said it was quite an experience as the station is celebrating fallen and living heroes in the month of August.
“The tour was eye-opening and we managed to get into the history of the liberation struggle.
“Heroes Day is around the corner so this was an opportunity for us to know the number of people at the national shrine and their contribution to the liberation struggle and then pass on what we heard and saw to our listeners from an informed position.”
Star FM team also visited the Heroes Gallery where they were imparted with knowledge about the Chibondo Genocide, which happened in 1972.
Rumbidzai Bvira, Resident Curator at the Heroes Acre, toured with the Star FM team describing the events and naming all the heroes and heroines laid to rest at the shrine.
