Sulu retraces Jozi ‘roots’

DENDERA king Suluman Chimbetu will tomorrow night deliver a once-off special show in Johannesburg at the Ekurhuleni Boksburg Hotel.
It is a much-anticipated gig after a long dendera ‘drought’.
The soft-spoken crooner’s visits to South Africa have been few and far between and last performed in the first quarter of the year in Pretoria.
Not many in Joburg made their way there because of the distance as well as the unfamiliar venue he played at.
This time he makes a return to the home of Zim entertainment in Boksburg and if the vibe on social media is anything go by then it promises to be a show to remember.
Sulu has previously let down his South African fans on a number of occasions at the last minute but this weekend he has vowed he will be there.
“Yes South Africa 2 December paEkurhuleni Boksburg Hotel its non-stop chinenge chakachaya. Sulu and the entire Orchestra Dendera Kings fulltime. Mupfanha wangu Nox anenge aripo tobatana ipapo, thank so much, so much thank you,” quipped Sulu in a social media promo video.
Sulu and his band will fly in on Saturday morning on the day of the show and will fly out on Sunday as they have other commitments in Zimbabwe. He will be sampling songs off his new upcoming album. Urban groover Nox Guni.
Meanwhile, in Cape Town the Don Family drops their sixth mixtape and the launch will take place at the Chicago Pub and Grill tonight (1 December). The bash is hosted by Shawn Cash, Boss Kiki, Baby Ladies and Boss Konsonko.
There will be live performances by the likes of Goba, Mazhambe, Janco Judah and Zimaster. Respected top female DJ Winnie will be on the decks and will take turns with others such as Icy, J Vybz and Andrian Beatz.
Malawian-based Double JK will be a guest MC on the night.
