CONTEMPORARY Zim dancehall meets comedy this coming Saturday when Tocky Vibes makes his maiden tour of the coastal city of Durban in South Africa.

He will be supported by rib-cracking comedian Baba Tencen of the “Ungandidii?” fame.

The bash will be in central Durban at the Cool Runnings club and scheduled to kick off at 7pm until 4am Sunday morning.

The weekend gig is courtesy of Wenox Promotions run by SA-based Noel Tigere who has been in the entertainment business for a while but on a smaller scale.

This weekend gives the budding promoter a platform to showcase what he can do on a much bigger platform.

Live performances by Zimbabwean artists in Durban have been rare despite the presence of a huge diaspora community residing in the eastern town which is just over 500km from Johannesburg.

A huge number is expected at the venue which is centrally located to ease transport woes for revellers.

“We have done fairly well in terms of marketing. We have distributed fliers and posters both online and physically around Durban. A sizeable number of fans has promised to come and we have made adequate security arrangements for both our patrons and fans alike.

“We also got inquiries by fans from Johannesburg who will take the opportunity to also visit Durban which is one of the top holiday destinations in SA,” said Tigere yesterday.

Born Obey Makamure 23 years ago, Tocky Vibes became an instant hit with songs such as Mhai, Tocky Aenda nenyika and Usakande Mapfumo pasi.

Despite having been released a couple of years ago the tracks are still darlings for his hard core fans.

He recently blew the South African audience away earlier this month when he performed at The Bassline on the Ragga Thursday Nights with veterans Jah See and Admiral. Durbanites have a chance to witness Tocky’s prowess and sample new tracks from his 2016 album Bhora Mutambo.

As part of growing the local Durban music industry for Zimbabweans, the promoters will be giving upcoming artists an opportunity to showcase their talent on the night. Interested participants can SMS or Whatsapp 0027761387470.
