WARRIORS OPTIONS LIMITED
1 December 2017
ZIFA’s options are now limited as one of the coaches they had targeted Joey Antipas now looks set to make a return to former club Chicken Inn, H-Metro can reveal.
Antipas is also believed to have been targeted by ambitious Premiership side Ngezi Platinum, but nothing materialised.
Chicken Inn had highlighted that only when they have held their end of year meeting, will they be in a position to reveal their plans for 2018.
The former champions finished fourth under the guidance of coach Rahman Gumbo.
“Chances are very high that Antipas will bounce back. The two parties know each other well and there is bound to be no problems. They normally want stability and they believe their former coach, who had left for Amazulu after being prized-away, will give them exactly that,” said a source.
If the deal is sealed, Zifa will then be compelled to look elsewhere for a substantive coach who will eventually take up the position left by Kalisto Pasuwa after AFCON.
The Warriors were under the guidance of Norman Mapeza when they dismissed Liberia 3-0 in the first group match of the 2019 AFCON qualifiers.
Mapeza then excused himself for the remainder of the year when he was concentrating on the title chase with FC Platinum.
Although Mapeza has what it takes to take the Warriors to the AFCON finals, there is no chance that the Philip Chiyangwa-led association will be in a position to lure Mapeza.
Mapeza still have another two years on his contract with FC Platinum and it’s unlikely the Zimbabwe champions will let go their coach going into the CAF Champions league.
Against that background, Zifa could be forced to turn Sunday Chidzambwa who has already come to the rescue of the association on many occasions this year.
Chidzambwa was in charge of the Warriors at the COSAFA Castle Cup in South Africa where they managed to lift the cup. He was again in charge of the CHAN qualifiers.
Before Zifa pulled out of the CECAFA tournament, they had also appointed the coach lead the team. Chidzambwa is on his way out of ZPC Kariba.
The other option for the Warriors will be Rahman Gumbo while it could be difficult for Zifa to consider a foreign coach.
