Woman murders sister
13 September 2017
A 67-year-old woman has appeared at the Zvishavane Magistrates’ court on accusations of fatally assaulting her blind elder sister.
Emma Mafuka of Madhara Village under Chief Mapanzure in Zvishavane, was not asked to plead to the allegations of murder when she appeared before Magistrate Mr Shepherd Mjanja.
Emma, however, gave a small insight on what she alleged happened on the fateful day she had a misunderstanding with her sister Margret Madhara who is believed to have been in her 80s.
She told the court that when she assaulted Margret, she was disciplining her for wandering, as she had just been lost.
Emma was remanded in custody and she will be back in court for her routine remand on September 22.
State, led by prosecutor Mr Stanley Ncube, alleges that on August 29, Emma assaulted her sister all over the body with a thick stick, inflicting serious injuries.
It is said that Margret died last week on Monday at around 5am due to head injuries which were inflicted by Emma.
In a bid to cover up for the offence, allegations are that Emma went and reported to the Village Headman that her sister was suffering from high blood pressure.
But it is said that Margret had already narrated her ordeal to the Village Head on August 29 and it is the State’s case that the post mortem report confirms the assault.
It is also alleged that after realising that the offence had come to light, Emma tried to run away from her village and she even attempted suicide only to be restrained by members of the public.
Further allegations are that she threatened witnesses with death if she is to be convicted.
